Christmas BookTube-a-Thon!!!

Hi guys,

First of all, let me apologize for my absence on my blog this month. I had a lot of internet-connection problems, which were very frustrating!
Fortunately that problem is finally resolved, so I can continue to be online :)

Did you guys here about the Christmas BookTube a Thon?

It's a Read-a-Thon, created by some booktubers, like Ariel Bissett and Jesse the Reader. They created this mainly to have an opportunity to get a lot of reading done before the end of the year. Many of us have a yearly goal to reach and many(including me) need to read a lot of books to achieve that goal.  This read-a-thon takes place from Friday the 20th until Sunday the 22nd of December. It's from midnight til midnight.

I never participated in a read-a-thon before, but was really excited about this one. I still have this entire Sunday to read and I thought I'll share my progress so far.

I didn't have any time to read Friday, but I've read some Saturday. I've read about 100 pages of Spirit Bound( the fifth book in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead) and I'm really loving it. I'm currently on page 227 (48 % done according to Goodreads) and I'm going to try to read as much of the book and hopefully finish it today.

If you want to participate and it's still Sunday  were you live, you can check out the twitter BookTube-A-Thon and follow the sprints they host over there.

Happy reading and have a very nice Christmas everyone!!!

Review: Gossip Girl

Title: Gossip Girl
Series: Gossip Girl #1
Author: Cecily von Ziegesar

Release date: April 2002
Age group: Young adult
Pages: 224

I've started this book years ago, but didn't feel like finishing it. I'm going to give it another go without expecting much. I'm gonna read it as a light, fluffy chick-lit read.

The whole scenery of the rich people is very selfish.
For me, the characters had little to connect with. Mostly I find reading a book enjoyable because of the character-development and the writing-style. The characters were mostly shallow and didn't seem to care about anything but their money and what the people in the Upper Class might think of them.

I think the only way to read this book and be able to enjoy it, is not to take it seriously at all. If you would take it seriously, there are so many aspects that are very wrong about it. The way the characters see alcohol, sex and drugs is really worrying, even disturbing.

Chuck doesn't know his boundaries when it comes to girls and I think it's mainly because the girls doesn't give him any boundaries. An example from the book:

"'You really do look good' he said again, staring at Serena's legs like he wanted to eat them.
'Thanks' Serena said and laughed. It was kind of a relief to see that Chuck was still exactly the same, even if everyone else was acting like freaks. She had to love him for that."
I didn't know what to think after reading lines like that..

Most times the writing-perspective was unclear, with parts written from Blairs or Serena's character(and a lot of other characters), and  other parts from a third person perspective. Other times you would think it's from the anonymous Gossip Girl. The many different perspectives often intertwined and caused confusion on who was talking.

While there are a lot of rich and spoiled kids, there are some characters( like Dan and Jenny) that doesn't live those luxurious lifestyles. I found that Dan was a depressing character ( if you don't count the moments he sees Serena). He had some very different thoughts than the rich kids.

I did enjoy this book because I realized the ridiculousness of it all. These kids are like 17 years old and acting like they own the world. It's sad to realize that these kind of environments do exist in the real world. I  thought about giving it 2,5 stars, but I don't rate my books with half stars. So I'll give this one 3 stars, because I did enjoy reading it, but it wasn't a great read.

Last TBR of 2013!!

I can't believe is already December!! This year has gone by so fast.

I have a yearly goal on Goodreads of reading 26 books in 2013. I know that doesn't seem like a lot for most bookbloggers, but for me it's a decent goal. I've read 19 books so far and need to read 7 more. I'm going to choose some small books to be able to achieve my goal.

I've started reading this book and I'm about 40 % done. I want to finish this book in December.

I'm going to cheat a little bit by reading the gossip girl series.
These are pretty thin books and I hope I will fly through them.
I'm going to read three or four gossip girl books.

I want to read the last two books of the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.

I hope I will be able to read all the books this month and reach my goal of 26 books.

How many books do you want to read in December? Share your TBR-pile in the comments below!!

Review: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Title: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Author: Mark Haddon
Release date: May 2004
Pages: 226

I heard a lot about this book. Many people in the book community read it, so I thought I will give it a go. I'm very interested in Autism and have worked with children with Autism before.

It was amazing to truly get inside someone's mind and experience what they're experiencing every day. It would drive me insane to thing like that about pretty much EVERYTHING. But it does gives other people great insight in the live of an Autistic kid ( I'm not trying to say every child with Autism thinks exactly like Christopher did!). story begins with a great introduction. The dog of Christopher's neighbor has been killed and Christopher is dedicated to find the person who is responsible for killing this dog.
The way he handles problems is fascinating to me. He always tries to create a (for him) logical explanation for why he's doing what he's doing without breaking any rules.

It's a very interesting read that I recommend to everyone!!
