Review: Because I'm worth it

Title: Because I'm worth it.
Series: Gossip Girl #4
Author: Cecily von Ziegesar
Release date: October 2003
Age group: Young Adult
Pages: 234

I'm not expecting a whole lot in this book, but I hope the writer keeps the humorous aspects used in the third book; All I want is everything
I would also like to see a little bit of character-development, but I'm not counting on it.

I did enjoy this book, in a very light read, chick-lit kind of way. The humor was still there, which was nice.

The entire book was just as I expected, about the same characters, doing the same things, buying the same expensive stuff they don't need and so on.

I have to say that reading these books makes the TV-show way better. The TV-series has created a better story-line and left things out that wasn't that interesting to look at. The books are to slow to my taste. It gets a little boring to read.

I'm going to read one more installment and if my opinion stays the same, I'll stop reading this series. This is because I don't see any improvement in the story-lines or in the character-development happening soon.

I did enjoy reading it in a chick-lit kind of way, but I'm getting tired or reading the same kind of stories over and over. I'm giving this book 2 stars out of 5.

Vampire Academy, the movie!!

Have you seen the trailer of the Vampire Academy movie?
Click here to see it. In this post I share my thoughts on it.

Book to movie
This is a book to movie adaptation, directed by Mark Waters. Based on the Vampire Academy series written by Richelle Mead. I've read most of the books in the series and reviewed them:
Vampire Academy #1
Frostbite #2
Shadow Kiss #3
Blood Promise #4
Spirit Bound #5

First impression
The first time watching the trailer, the story felt a little to much like a high school chick-lit movie. This is no surprise because the director created other movies like Mean Girls. But I did like a lot of things about the trailer. I like the way Rose is portrayed and the funny touch the movie seems to have. I REALLY like Dimitri... More about him later. I like the look of the Academy and the trailer got me excited to see all the action (AND interaction between Rose and Dimitri ;)).

The cast
I'm so happy with the cast members selected for this movie!!
First of all there's Rose Hathaway, our main character who I love in the books. She will be portrayed by Zoey Deutch. I think she's a great choice because she comes pretty close to the Rose I had in mind while reading the series.

Then there's Lissa Dragomir,  Lissa, played by Lucy Fry, the best friend of Rose. I needed to adjust to her, just because I pictured her very different in my mind while reading the books. However, after watching the trailer a couple of times, I start liking her as Lissa more and more.

Dominic Sherwood plays Christian Ozera, a character I really like in the books. I think he's a great choice to play Christian. I've seen some interviews and his accent is really beautiful!! Just wanted to throw that out here.

And now..let's talk about Dimitri Belikov. I think I can talk about him the entire day.
He is so perfect for this!! Danila Kozlovsky is the actor in the picture, and he's Russian!! This is exactly the Dimitri I had in mind. He's tall, beautiful, fierce and simply amazing!
What do you think?

This movie will be released in the beginning of February 2014 in the USA and around 17 Februari in Europe.Tell me your thoughts on the trailer. Thanks for reading!

Review: All I want is everything

Title: All I want is Everything
Series: Gossip Girl #3
Author: Cecily von Ziegesar

Release date: May 2003
Age group: Young Adult
Pages: 240

My expectations of this book are pretty low.  I wasn't a fan of the first two books(especially the second one) but I own the first 5 books of this series, which means I need to read them.

Reviews of the first books:
Gossip Girl
You know you love me

I'm going to make this a short review, because it was a pretty short book and a chick-lit(and the third book in this series).

After reading this I actually liked the series a little more.  There was way more humor in this one, which made it funny to read.
I actually enjoyed reading this one in stead of being annoyed by the things they say every 5 minutes. Sometimes I actually laughed out loud!

It was nice to see the girls as friends again and they showed that friendship means a lot. They wrong use of alcohol is a consistent factor in this series, which, to me, is a shame.

I'm really missing the character development of pretty much all the characters in this series. I don't have any expectations of seeing that change as this series continues. For me it's really important not to take this book serious at all. If you see the insanity of it all, then you can see the fun of it and enjoy the story.

I'm going to give this book three stars, just because I enjoyed reading it and to me it was an upgrade from the previous ones in this series.

Review: You know you love me

Title: You know you love me
Series: Gossip Girl #2
Author: Cecily von Ziegesar
Release date: September 2002
Age group: Young Adult

Pages: 240

I read the first book Gossip Girl, you can check out my review on that one. It was a fun read, but not amazingly written or a really interesting story. I just want to give this series a chance and see it as a fun chick-lit read. I do hope the writing get's better in this second book, as well as the story-lines.

I did have fun reading this book, but I had trouble with some disturbing thoughts that were assumed to be very normal thoughts in this book.

For example, Blair throws up pretty much whenever she feels nervous and she thinks it's perfectly okay to solve problems like that. Obviously I don't have to explain that's a bad example for young 15-16 year old girls reading these books and thinking that's okay.

There are more of these kind of examples throughout the book. If we look at the rest of the book, I thought it was an okay read.  I get tired of hearing how beautiful Serena is. We get it, you don't have to tell me every 10 pages or so that her sandy-colored hair sparkles in the sun..

I don't know, maybe I'm just getting to old for series like this and maybe I would've liked it when I was 15 years old. I liked the humorous moments in the book but other than that there was not much to relate to.

Did you read the Gossip Girl series? Let me know in the comments below!!

First Book Haul of 2014!!

My First Book Haul  of 2014 is here!!!

I have to admit something.. this is actually my (very) late December book haul, but I thought I'm just going to pretend it's for 2014.

All the books in this book haul are presents that I've received in December, with one exception. I'm so happy I got all these books and I'm very excited to read them in 2014!

Lord of the Rings trilogy
Author: J.R.R. Tolkien

I've always wanted to  buy this trilogy, because I loved the movie adaptations. I bumped into these editions in sale and I just had to get them. They're Dutch editions, because I thought it would be better to read this very complicated story in my own language. Maybe some day I'll read it in English.
The Mortal Instruments series
Author: Cassandra Clare

For Christmas I asked for the books of the Mortal Instruments series and I got them!! I only owned the first one, City of Bones, in Dutch and really wanted to complete this series. The only one that's still missing is the 6th book, City of Heavenly Fire, that will be released in  May 2014. I'm so happy to start reading this series and hope I will love it.  I haven't seen the movie because I want to read the books first.

The short second life of Bree Tanner
Author: Stephenie Meyer

A while ago I bought the Twilight Saga box on sale. I haven't read it yet, but I'm planning on reading it this year, so I thought this little book would be a nice addition to my Twilight stuff.
I'm really curious to read the Twilight Saga and compare the books to the movies.  This is the Dutch version because I own the Twilight Saga in Dutch as well.
The Fifth Wave
Author: Rick Yancey

I'v heard so many good things about this book, that I really want to check it out. I was so excited when I got this one ! Somehow I didn't expect it to be a huge book(which it is). This is also the Dutch version.

Author: Veronica Roth

And last but not least, I got DIVERGENT!!! It feels like I'm the last person on the planet who hasn't read this trilogy yet.
This is the only book I got in English and I'm very excited!!!

That's all, now I need your help. The new ones I put on my to-read shelf, but I don't know where to start now. Which one of these books should I read first? Please let me know in the comments, thanks!

This is my current to-read shelf

Review: Spirit Bound

Title: Spirit Bound
Series: Vampire Academy #5

Author: Richelle Mead
Release date: May 2010
Age group: Young Adult
Pages: 489

If you haven't read this series, I recommend reading my review on the previous books;
book 1: Vampire Academy
book 2: Frostbite
book 3: Shadow Kiss
book 4: Blood Promise

You can also check out my post about the movie: Vampire Academy, the movie!

I can't believe I'm already starting the fifth book in this series. Richelle Mead has an amazing writing-style that keeps you interested and intrigued throughout the entire series (so far). I'm expecting a lot of action and I'm really curious about the Dimitri-problem.

I feel like I'm repeating myself but this series keeps getting better.Rose is becoming one of my all time favorite main-characters. She's so real, that I sometimes forget that it's a fantasy story. She truly loves Dimitri and you can really feel for her.

The fifth book starts out pretty slow and I was waiting for some action. But that's my only complain. After the slow part the story takes off full of action and with great story-lines. And when I say full of action, I mean FULL of action. It was amazing to read and totally made up for the slow part at the beginning.

Can we talk about the Dimitri changes in this book? How did she ever came up with that? It's just so brilliant and exciting to read about. Sometimes we get to see his point of view which I like, because after 5 books, Dimitri can still be a big mystery.

I really like Adrian as a side-character. He can be so understanding and supporting for Rose (and I also like his casual I don't care attitude ; ) that I can't help but like him.

Sometimes Rose sneaks into Lissa's mind and we get to see a situation through Lissa's eyes, which is a really smart move because we get one main-character, but still two different views.

The way Rose handles some (very difficult) situations seems inspiring. Rose had some interesting moments with Queen Tatiana which often made me wonder if the Queen has good intentions or not.. That still seems like some kind of mystery.

At the end of this book I had a feeling that the last book can go in so many different directions. Richelle Mead is such a great writer that I honestly don't know what's going to happen in the big finale. I'm really curious about how it's all going down in the end.

If you like, leave a comment below answering the following question:
Have you read any Vampire Young Adult books and if so, what's your favorite book/series?

New Year Resolutions!

Hi guys,

I know, I'm a little late, but HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I wish everyone an amazing 2014 with lots of love, happiness and (reading)fun!
Yesterday I came home from a lovely holiday on the Canarian Islands, and I've enjoyed every little bit of it. That also means that I haven't been posting on my blog for two weeks...
But here we are again!!

Recap of 2013
This has been a good year for me with a lot of new things. I've graduated and became a teacher which has been a real milestone for me. I also started this bookblog and became more and more involved with the bookblog- and the booktube-community. These are such lovely communities and I enjoy being a part of them.

2013 also brought me lovely new people to talk to about books (or other things).

New Years Resolutions
What do I want to accomplish in 2014?
For me, this is the first year that I'm not a student and instead looking for a job. I'm now a substitute teacher, which means that they call me whenever a teacher calls in sick. It's a job with lots of new experiences, but also a very unpredictable job as to how many hours a month I'm working. in other words, if nobody's sick, I don't have a job.  I want to look for a more job with more stability, but at the same time I want to look at everything I can do now that I don't have a job like that. Travel, learning more about specific behaviors( I'm very interested in Autism) and so on..

I also want to be more in shape and start eating more healthy(I think everyone has that goal)

I'm not going to bore you any longer with my undecided thoughts and more on to the real topic here:
What are my book-related new years resolutions?

I've set my Goodreads goal on 30 books, which is pretty decent for me. My 2013 goal was 26 which I didn't achieve(only read 24), but even so, I think 30 books can be done. Last year I had to write my thesis, which meant that I didn't have any reading time for a couple of months. This year I'm not studying, so more time to read!

I also want to be more consistent with posts on this blog. I want to have some kind of system. For that I need your help. How often should I post on this blog? Please comment below and let me know what you think so I can find a consistency we're all pleased with.

I'm going to post my TBR list for this month tomorrow, make sure to check it out and share yours too!!

Again, have a lovely 2014 with lots of reading!!!
