Author: Kiera Cass

The first book in this trilogy is called The Selection, check out my review of that book here.

Expectations

I enjoyed reading the Selection. The female main character America is funny, caring and loving. I like her kind of humor, but she finds it nearly impossible to make a decision. I think making decisions can be very difficult for most teenagers, which helps to relate to her.

Review

I was a bit disappointed with this sequel. I don't know why, but somehow I expected more from this.

There were some great moments in this book which I really enjoyed, but I think America cried way too much and started crying too fast. For me, this was kind of annoying. I was like: here we go again, she cries because she doesn't know what to do, she can't make up her mind.

Don't get me wrong, in the beginning of this trilogy I really liked America, but after reading the Elite, my view of her is changed. I still like her, just not so much. I felt like the whole book was about her choosing between Aspen and Maxon and about the attacks of the rebels.
The story wasn't really going anywhere and I felt like the writer was repeating herself.

I really like both men though. Aspen made a mistake, but she can't punish him forever for that. Aspen is very dedicated to his job and to protect America. He's very brave and somehow doesn't show his jealousy, which I suppose is very hard for him to hide. And Maxon is really sweet, such a gentleman and he also has a lot of humor. I like the connection America has with both men.

I'm glad I did enjoy some moments. It is funny, because the moments I liked in this book, I REALLY liked. This were mainly the moments when America is alone with one of the guys or when she's talking to a good friend.I really hope the last book will be a nice ending and doesn't feel like this book did.

Rating

Rating this book is hard for me, because I was really enjoyed and some moments I really liked the book. So I wanna give it 2,5 stars, except there's one problem. I only rate my books with whole stars. For now I'll give it 3 stars, just because it doesn't deserve 2.

  1. It's always disheartening when sequels let you and a series down, this makes me a little sad as this is a series I've been quite excited to read myself but then again 3 stars isn't really all the bad in the grand scheme of things. Is it still worth reading in your opinion?

    1. Hi Thea,
Yes I know, I was really excited about this trilogy as well. I think my expectations were too high. I think despite the negative things, it's still worth reading. You should definitely give the first one a try, I liked that one a lot :)

  2. This was a big disappointment for me as well after I enjoyed The Selection so much, but stick with the series because I thought The One was so much better and got 5 stars from me :) You can see all my reviews on my blog is you want? http://enchantedbyya.blogspot.co.uk/p/review-index-z.html

  3. It's a shame this wasn't one that kept your interest as much as the previous one you read! I would love to read this series, or at least the first one in it. I am working towards getting round to it.
